FreightRail (NISX:FRC) is the largest railway freight company in New Ingerland. It was created as a result of the break-up of the New Ingerland Railways Corporation in the 1990s, and is now the largest independent rail freight company in the country.
History
FreightRail was established in 1998, when the freight division of the New Ingerland Railways Corporation was split off as an independent company. The new enterprise was registered with the National Companies and Securities Commission on 1 March.
Operations
The company operates two divisions
Commodities
The commodities division is responsible for the transport of various cereal crops (barley, maize, millet, oats, sorghum, and wheat) and minerals (antimony, coal, and diatomite) from their point of origin to either domestic processing centres or to one of the two international ports at Goodwood and Port Frederick.
Intermodal
The intermodal division is responsible for moving containerised bulk goods between the freight terminals or from the terminals to one of the two ports. FreightRail operates terminals at Kingsbury, Corfe Harbour, and Swanbrook.
